The Underground will go further – simultaneously in both directions

In spite of the fact that there is still much time left until the end of the construction of the central part of the second underground line, Warsaw has already started preparations to extend the underground railroad even further. The decision on the construction of the entire second line has been made and the first stage will include preparations to extend the line to Wola and Targówek at the same time. A competition for the project of stations for the west and north-east part in the variant 3+3 has been announced

As a result, the start of construction works on consecutive parts of the second line will be theoretically possible without waiting for the central part to be put into use. However, it will be necessary to get EU grants from the next financial perspective. Certainly after getting such grants, next competitions will be announced and the construction of the remaining parts of the second underground line together with the Mory stop station will be put in a tender.

First, the underground line will be extended by three stations from both directions.

On the west part they will include:

– C8 – under ul. Płocka, in the area of the intersection with ul. Wolska

– C7 – under ul. Górczewska, on the east side of the rail flyover in the area of streets: Sokołowska and Syreny

– C6 – under ul. Górczewska, in the area of the intersection with ul. Księcia Janusza

The north-east part will consist of the following stations:

– C16 – under ul. Strzelecka on the east side of ul. Stalowa

– C17 – near the intersection of ul. Pratulińska with ul. Ossowskiego

– C18 – in the area of the intersection of ul. Pratulińska with ul. Trocka

The holding track for trains and chambers with turning loops will be constructed on both ends of the extended second line.

The competition applications can be submitted until the 15th of December. The participants qualified to take part in the competition will have 90 days to deliver their projects. The task has been divided into two parts. The best project for the west and north-east parts will be selected separately. Each participant can submit only one project concerning only one part.

The projects will be assessed, among others, in terms of costs, used architectural solutions, the influence of the underground complex on the environment as well as connections between the underground rail and the ground public transport.

The winner of the competition in each part will win a PLN 50,000 prize and will be invited to take part in negotiations in sole-source contract for the implementation of the construction project. The jury will also grant four honorary PLN 25,000 rewards .
