Before holidays, ZTM announced a competition for pupils and students. The task was to design a unique Warsaw City Card which will reflect the city and Polish membership in the EU. Competition winners were announced on 7 September.
Basing on the criteria specified in the competition regulations, the jury did not award the main prize. The authors of the best designs were granted five distinctions.
The first distinction was given to Łukasz Rowicki and Piotr Strojnowski;
The second distinction – Natalia Berdek, Mateusz Walkowicz and Jan Szewczuk.
Let’s recall some facts
On 1 July 2011, Poland took over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The six-month presidency is a great challenge but also a great opportunity to promote Poland and Warsaw.
The Public Transport Authority has been providing transport in Warsaw for almost 20 years. It is a well-recognized partner in Europe. That is why, among others, ZTM joined the prestigious “Klub Przyjaciół Prezydencji” (Friends of the Presidency Club) on the basis of the cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Passengers using public transport may apply for a special Warsaw City Card prepared by ZTM on the occasion of presidency.
The presidency is a period during which each EU member state presides over the Council of the European Union and represents the Council in the international scene. The presidency lasts for six months and is held by every UE member in succession. Poland will take over the presidency after Hungary (1 July 2011) and then pass it to Denmark (1 January 2012).
Poland has gained a real influence on the decisions taken in the European Union for the first time. Polish ministers will preside over the works of the EU Council of Ministers for half a year (with the exception of defence ministry which functions mainly under NATO, and treasure ministry since usually there are no counterparts in the European Union).
