The Public Transport Authority and the carriers – Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe (city bus company), Tramwaje Warszawskie (Warsaw trams), Metro Warszawskie (Warsaw Underground) and Szybka Kolej Miejska (Fast Urban Railway) spend millions of zlotys on covering damages caused by hooligans and vandals each year. This money could be spent on new shelters, modern buses and trams.
On June 16 the ZTM with cooperation with Komenda Stołeczna Policji (Warsaw police headquarters), Straż Miejska (municipal guard), Polski Związek Motorowy (Polish Motor Union), TVP Warszawa (Warsaw TV) and the AMS company is going to start the next stage of the social campaign titled ‘Nie toleruj, powiadom’ (Don’t tolerate, notify). The main aim is to sensitize passengers and other users of Warsaw roads to all cases of vandalism and to induce them to inform appropriate services about all noticed offences and crimes immediately.
Hooligans break windows in vehicles, steal and damage validating machines, destroy seats and other elements of equipment, damage metro entrance gates, cover windows, walls and stations with hardly removable graffiti. It is true that the number of such events is decreasing systematically, but looses are still huge. Far too high. Among others the prize-winning motorcyclists such as Tadeusz Błażusiak – the winner of the Enduro World Cup and the world champion in the Indoor Enduro World Cup 2011 as well as Bartosz Obłucki – the world vice-champion of the Enduro will encourage passengers to greater empathy and fast reacting.
The first part of the campaign will last till June 24.
