Organizers of the public transport in Warsaw and Berlin together with railway operators want to jointly work out solutions enabling a journey between both capital cities on the basis of a joint ticket valid on trains and – after arrival at a destination – on the public transport. A similar solution was introduced in August this year in Berlin and Szczecin. It turned out to be a great success.
10 Euro-Ticket for the connection between Szczecin and Berlin, enabling the passengers to use the public transport in both cities was introduced in August as a result of initiative of Transport Association Berlin – Brandenburg (VBB) – transport organizer in the capital city of Germany and a railway operator of DB Regio. Up until then, the journey between Berlin and Szczecin had cost €16.70.
The number of train passengers doubled in the first month of introducing a €10 joint ticket. 4000 tickets were sold in September which is 400% more in comparison with the same month in 2009.
As the VBB director Hans-Werner Franz says the reason of reducing ticket prices by about 40% was a sign of willingness to create an attractive alternative for travelling between Berlin and Szczecin by private cars and buses. And it worked. A positive balance of the first two months pleases us a lot and shows that price reduction has proven profitable – admits VBB director.
