Italians learn from Warsaw – ZTM Warszawa

Italians learn from Warsaw

Public Transport Authority of Warsaw (ZTM) hosted a delegation of the region of Piedmont. The topic of today’s meeting was functioning of the electronic ticket system. Italians are preparing for implementation of such a solution in Turin. For this purpose they wanted to know all Warsaw experiences connected with the management of municipal City Cards system and co-operation with private operators.

ZTM premises were visited by: Cesare Formisano, assistant of regional minister of transport and Alessandro Zeppegno, president of Neos Tech company which is a partner of the regional authorities in implementing the project.

Foreign guests watched a presentation about the development of the ticket system in Warsaw starting with the history of Warsaw City Card (WKM), through the possibility of coding tickets on Electronic Student Card (ELS) and finishing with the possibility of purchasing a ticket by mobile phone and the Internet.

Italians were also interested in ZTM’s co-operation with private operators. They also asked about the principles of settlements.

Transport situation in Piedmont region is much more complicated than in Warsaw. Contrary to the capital city, Italians do not have one dominating transport organizer who would issue tickets and set standards concerning passenger transport. There are many operators in Piedmont, all of which issue their own tickets. Before the system of electronic tickets can be introduced there, local authorities will also have to face the problem of tariff integration among the operators.
