Swing on rails

First of the 186 ultramodern trams bought for Warsaw will start operating on June 12. It will be – similarly to the rest of the rolling stock – low floor, air-conditioned, equipped with ticket machines and monitoring.

“120 Na” tram model has been named “Swing” by PESA Company from Bydgoszcz.

Trams will be delivered to Warsaw in stages. By the end of the current year 33 Swings will have been delivered. There will be 120 trams in Warsaw before Euro 2012.

The delivery will finish in 2013.

The cost of the purchase of all 186 vehicles amounts to PLN 1.5 billion, a part of which is co-financed by the European Union.

Inauguration ceremony of Swing’s service is going to take place on 12th June at 1.15 p.m. in the tram depot R-3 “Mokotów” on Jana Pawła ul. Woronicza 27 .

The President of Warsaw – Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz will participate in the ceremony.

Swing will start operating accompanied by 9 trams. They will be presenting over 100 year-old history of trams in Warsaw. Swing will be leading the parade while the model “A” from 1907 (first electric tram in Warsaw) will be closing it.

Swing will operate on the following route:

Pl. Narutowicza – ul.Grójecka – pl. Zawiszy – al. Jerozolimskie – al.Zieleniecka –

ul. Targowa – pl. Wileński – al. Solidarności – ul. Towarowa – Pl. Narutowicza

It will stop on the following stations:

Pl. Narutowicza,

Centrum (City Center),

Muzeum Narodowe (National Museum),

Rondo Waszyngtona,

Dw. Wileński,

Metro Ratusz Arsenał,

Okopowa,

Pl. Zawiszy,

Pl. Narutowicza.

After concluding the parade, the tram “120 Na” will operate free of charge until 5 p.m. transporting all willing passengers on the route specified above.
