15 years ago – the first ride by underground

Eleven kilometers – from Kabaty to pl. Politechniki station. This distance has been covered by the first underground train in Warsaw on April 7, 1995.

It is hard to believe that the construction works of the underground were scheduled by Warsaw authorities already in 1925. Two years later, the underground route project was approved, and first geological works were launched. The construction of the first underground line was resumed after war, in 1982, when Polish government took relevant decisions. The first steel pale was placed on the underground route the following year (April 15).

The 11 km passage from Kabaty to Politechnika station was opened on April 7, 1995. There were 11 stations, and the trains covered the distance within 18 minutes and 20 seconds.
